    Meeting the English requirement

In order to study a course or programme taught in English in Sweden, you must meet certain English language requirements. Find out how.

    • What is the requirement?

If you’re applying for bachelor’s level courses and programmes, you must demonstrate that you are proficient in English at the level of the Swedish course English 6. This is part of the general entry requirements for studies here.

If you’re applying for master’s level courses and programmes, it’s up to the university to decide what level of English they require. For almost all courses, this means that you must be proficient in English at the same level as the Swedish course English 6.

    • How do I show that I meet the requirement?

There are several ways you can show that you meet the English requirement:

    Previous university studies

University studies completed in some countries can be enough to meet the English requirement. What this means is that the bachelor’s programme you completed provided you with skills in English equivalent to the Swedish course English 6/English B.

    Internationally recognised English tests

You can always demonstrate proficiency in English by achieving a minimum score on an English test. There are a number of tests available, such as IELTS and TOEFL.

Previous upper secondary (high school) studies

Successfully completing upper secondary studies in your country of study can be enough to meet the English requirement. What this means is that the English studies you completed there are considered equivalent to the Swedish course English 6/English B.
